Row over cash seizure from K'taka min's clerk

BENGALURU: The alleged seizure of a big amount of money from a clerk in the place of work of Karnataka minister for backward classes welfare C Puttarangashetty snowballed into a significant controversy on Saturday with the BJP and a senior leader of ruling coalition partner JD(S) tough the resignation of the Congress minister. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said an investigation was once on and a choice might be taken as soon as a detailed document comes out.

Mounting an assault on the ruling Congress-JDS coalition govt, the BJP demanded that the minister step down following the seizure of money from the clerk in the Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat, Friday evening.

"Yesterday the police seized Rs 25.76 lakh from Puttarangashetty's PA at Vidhana Soudha. The quilt bore the name of Minister Puttarangashetty.

"He must resign in an instant and the topic should be completely investigated," BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa said in Shivamogga.

Taking a jibe on the state govt, BJP basic secretary and birthday party spokesperson N Ravi Kumar wondered "how much money different ministers can be making if the day-to-day number of a minister is Rs 25.76 lakh".

JD(S) MLC Basavaraj Horatti too demanded that the minister resign on moral grounds.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said investigations were on and accordingly motion can be taken in opposition to the accused.

"With regard to the investigation, police will take their own choice. I'm really not the one to misuse power and affect investigation. We will take a choice when a detailed document comes out after a clear investigation," he said.

Former chief minister and state congress leader Siddaramaiah said investigation has to be carried out to find out how the accused got this sort of massive amount of money.


A case has to be registered, he said.


According to police, the clerk Mohan was once intercepted when he was once taking the cash within Vidhana Soudha and was once later arrested.


The clerk could now not give any adequate reply to the queries on the source of the cash and the cause in the back of taking it inside the state secretariat, they said.


Puttarangashetty had said he has no clue about the cash and that he was once now not in the place of work when the individual was once caught.
