Chancellor asks OUAT VC to go on leave

BHUBANESWAR: Governor Ganeshi Lal asked vice chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), S N Pasupalak, to go on indefinite go away, less than a month sooner than Pasupalak retires to ensure fair probe into alleged irregularities in recruitments in the college. Agriculture secretary Saurabh Garg has been asked to take over the rate of VC as a stop-gap arrangement. However, the Pasupalak said he has no longer won any letter from the federal government in this regard.

"Neither I nor the university has received any order to go on leave from the chancellor's office. I am still continuing as the vice chancellor and doing my duty," Pasupalak told ToI. The agriculture secretary additionally did not come to take rate on Tuesday, the VC informed.

Following the chancellor's order Odisha govt had initiated vigilance inquiry against Pashupalak in December 2018, for his alleged involvement in corruption in recruitment for various posts in numerous Krushi Vigyan Kendras (KVK).



"Chancellor, OUAT has been pleased to allow Prof Surendra Nath Pasupalak, vice chancellor, OUAT to proceed on leave with immediate effect to ensure transparency in the enquiry process contemplated against him," read the letter issued from the governor's workplace on Monday.


The VC additionally denied about any enquiry began against him. "I have no knowledge of any enquiry being conducted against me. The chancellor's office had sent me some queries and I had replied it. But there was no other communication on this," Pasuplak said including, "I will cooperate in any kind of enquiry against me but who is doing it and where?"


The inquiry was once ordered at the basis of the allegations of former OUAT registrar P Ok Jena that the VC had manipulated data for personal receive advantages and printed deceptive advertisements for various posts in the KVKs. Jena alleged that jobs had been offered in KVKs to persons no longer having qualifications as discussed the advertisements and no longer connected to the posts they had been appointed for.


Meanwhile resources in the chancellor's workplace said, the process for choice of new VC for the agri-university has already began. "The tenure of the current VC is going to be over on March 28. The process for selection of the new VC has started and very soon the search committee will shortlist candidates for the coveted post," said a senior officer in the chancellor's workplace.
