Odisha assembly elections: BJD denies tickets to three sitting MLAs in the second list

BHUBANESWAR: The ruling BJD on Sunday denied tickets to 3 of its sitting MLAs as it announced the second one record of candidates for 9 meeting segments in Odisha. The record includes 4 new faces. Lanjigarh MLA Balabhadra Majhi, Pottangi MLA Prafulla Kumar Pangi and Malkangiri MLA Manas Madkami have been denied tickets.

The leaders have been dropped following adverse reviews the birthday celebration has received on them, stated birthday celebration assets.

In Lanjigarh, birthday celebration roped in fresh recruit Pradip Kumar Dishari whilst Mukudi Sodi, who rejoined the birthday celebration recently, has been nominated from Malkangiri. Pritam Padhi, who abandoned Congress to sign up for BJD were given price tag from Pottangi and set to make his debut in electoral politics.

Sambalpur legislator Raseswari Panigrahi, who has been picked by way of the birthday celebration for a 2d time period, is the lone girl candidate in the second one record announced by way of birthday celebration president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik.

“We will announce names of other candidates very quickly,” stated Naveen.

The BJD nominated royal scion Arkesh Narayan Singh Deo, a beginner in politics to take on Congress veteran and sitting MLA Narasingha Mishra in Balangir meeting segment. It can be first ballot combat for Arkesh though his elder brother Kalikesh Singh Deo is BJD’s nominee for Balangir Lok Sabha seat.

Even as five-time MLA and former minister Jogendra Behera had opted to not struggle polls and advised the BJD leadership to imagine title of his youngest son Nihar Ranjan in his place, Naveen picked new face Pradeep Behera for Loisingha, a reserved constituency for scheduled caste candidates.

Prakash Chandra Mahi, a brisker in electoral politics, has changed his elder brother and state SC/ST development minister Ramesh Majhi in Jharigam meeting segment because the minister has been nominated by way of the birthday celebration to struggle the Lok Sabha polls from Nabarangapur parliamentary constituency.

BJD’s Jharsuguda district unit president and three-time MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty will contest the approaching meeting ballot from Brajrajnagar seat. Mohanty was given Brajrajnagar as senior leader Naba Das, who abandoned Congress to sign up for BJD in January, will struggle from Jharsuguda seat on BJD price tag this time.

The birthday celebration retained Rairakhol MLA and deputy executive chief whip Rohit Pujari for a 2d time period from his seat.

The ruling dispensation is yet to announce candidates for Biramitrapur and Phulbani meeting segments below Sundargarh and Kandhamal parliamentary segments respectively. Both the seats will go to polls in the second one segment on April 18.

Party assets stated it is going to announce names for those seats on Monday as Tuesday is the last date of nomination for 2d segment ballot.

Earlier, BJD announced candidates for 9 Lok Sabha and 54 meeting seats. Several leaders including many sitting MLAs and MPs left the birthday celebration protesting denial of tickets to them.
