PUNE: Police thwarted a kid marriage bid on Friday after receiving a tip-off on weddings involving two minor women at Erandwane.
The women, aged 15 and 14, have been to be married to older men — aged 25 and 30, respectively. They have been offered sooner than the Child Welfare Committee, which directed the police to shift them to a rescue centre.
The mom of the girls is hired as a maid and agreed to the wedding as she was once in need of money. “The women also labored as maids due to their mom’s sickness. The two men approached the girl’s mom with the marriage proposal. Due to the deficient financial situation of the circle of relatives, the lady agreed to the wedding,” mentioned senior inspector Deepak Lagad from the Deccan Gymkhana police station.
The minors seemed for his or her last SSC examination on Friday. “Both the girls are brilliant and had scored over 85% marks of their preliminary examinations,” Lagad mentioned.
