Punjab CM Amarinder Singh promises 50 colleges in 3 years

JALANDHAR: Ahead of parliamentary polls, Punjab leader minster Amarinder Singh laid the root stone of Girls Degree College at Buta Mandi, a Dalit bastion. He announced that his govt would accomplish the objective of organising 50 schools within the next three years.

Establishing a women college here was once a decade-old demand of the world, which is also the largest mandi of raw hide within the region.

Some months again Dalit activists had also staged a dharna for a number of days over the same demand. The location of school is part of Jalandhar West (reserved) constituency which is being represented through Sushil Rinku within the state assembly.

He is also an aspirant for ticket from Jalandhar for parliamentary election at the same time as Chaudhary Santokh Singh is the sitting MP. Rinku mentioned that the dharna was once staged for 107 days at the website online.

On this occasion, the CM also attacked the former SAD-BJP govt mentioning that latter made a press release in 2008 to ascertain a college here however there was once no development on this regard and it remained a trifling announcement.

He mentioned that they'd initiated the process for setting up 17 schools in just two years of his govt whilst the former govt had established best 30 schools in its decade-long regime. Captain Amarinder claimed that the demand was once raised for the primary time in 1992. He mentioned that the varsity would even be completed in one-and-a-half years at a value of Rs 13 crore as the three-acre land wanted for it were transferred through the Mandi Board to the higher schooling division.


The CM also stated that Buta Mandi was once historically populated through socially and economically marginalized sections of the society, who had been denied opportunities of higher schooling for a very long time.


Amarinder reiterated that the Congress govt would open the brand new degree schools in those assembly constituencies which failed to have degree schools.


He mentioned that Jalandhar would get any other college too - this at Shahkot.
