Surat: Surat’s diamantaires were extremely relieved on Friday after the angadia firms agreed to ferry high price diamonds and jewelry to Mumbai and other portions of Gujarat from Saturday onwards.
Industry resources said that the angadias had unanimously made up our minds not to take supply assignments of diamonds and jewelry following raids via source of revenue tax department and static survelliance teams because of the type code of conduct. Rattled via raids performed in Surat and Vapi the place the dep. seized money and valuables worth over Rs 4 crore in the remaining two weeks, the angadias had stopped supply of products and money since remaining Monday.
This determination to stop delivering items destabilized the diamond trade, particularly the small and medium companies and the merchants. The loss to the trade is pegged at Rs 6,000 crore in the remaining five days.
President of Surat Diamond Association (SDA), Babu Gujarati told TOI, “The concern of the angadia firms was once authentic. They were wary of the raids via I-T officers and static surveillance group of workers because of LS elections. The angadias agreed to supply the goods handiest once we held a chain of meetings with the I-T authorities and the election officers.”
Gujarati additional said that the angadias who will raise correct documents while sporting supply assignments may not be disturbed via the I-T officers or the static group of workers contributors. “As a long way as supply of money is worried, it is up to the angadias if they are prepared to take the risk,” he added.
Sources said that majority of the diamonds provided to Mumbai and other portions of Gujarat is completed via the angadia firms. The large and medium diamond companies rely on these logistic firms’ services for the supply of high price items.
Explaining the angadia’s process, Kirti Shah, a diamond exporter said, “A big sum of money will get generated selling diamonds. When I want to ship the money to my acquaintance in Mumbai, I'd send my man to an angadia firm in Surat with the cash. The angadia’s department administrative center in Mumbai would ship the cash to my contact in Mumbai.”
