NEW DELHI: Air India has deferred the release of its Mumbai-Colombo flight following the Easter Sunday serial blasts in the Sri Lankan capital.
The five-times weekly was once to start out from May 1 but might now get started a month later. AI, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Sri Lankan are continuing their present flights between India and the island nation.
However, a number of travellers are suspending or cancelling their journeys to the island. IndiGo on Thursday tweeted, “The full charge waiver on rescheduling / cancellation for all flights to / from Colombo has been extended until May 15, 2019.” Air India has achieved the same until April 30 and might prolong the date additional.
Passengers flying out of Colombo were requested to reach the airport at least four hours ahead of flight departure time because of heightened safety features.
Fearing a large hit on its vacationer influx, Sri Lanka’s Tourism Promotion Board and Tourism Development Authority have issued a commentary saying that all steps were taken to verify safety of visitors and that it “seems forward to warmly welcome all those who have planned journeys to the country in the days, weeks and months ahead.”
“Sri Lanka Tourism needs to assure vacationers who are already in the country and unaffected by means of the phobia attacks that the police, tourism police and security forces are jointly implementing a comprehensive security plan to verify their safety across the island including all essential tourism websites… Sri Lanka Tourism would like to reassure the arena that the country is open for industry and all conceivable measures were taken to verify the security and safety of visitors. Our tourism websites, inns, resorts and different vacationer points of interest will remain open as standard. There are no highway closures or restrictions on movement anyplace in the island,” the tourism board stated.
