Despite mourning, Wadhvan ARO cancels leave to join poll duty

Rajkot: His mom died just 8 days earlier than the election. But this did not deter a grieving Vijay Patni to discharge his election tasks.

Patni, deputy collector of Surendranagar district used to be assigned the duty of assistant returning officer (ARO) of Wadhvan. He used to be answerable for 279 cubicles within the taluka.


On April 15, his mom died due to age-related illness in Ahmedabad. Patni used to be even granted 15 days go away through district collector to complete the post-death rituals. However, the officers have been pleasantly stunned when Patni returned to sign up for the duty on April 20. His function includes issuing duty orders to folks, dispatching of EVMs to the cubicles, teach and organize the workforce of round 2,000 folks to peer that election is finished peacefully and EVMs are despatched again under the safety at protected position after final touch of ballot.


Patni advised TOI, “I used to be aware that it might be extremely difficult for someone else to regulate this function swiftly. So I joined the duty. For the document, Amrut Patel is the ARO, however I joined the duty to help him and spot that the election is totally smoothly.”


“We are still mourning my mom’s demise. But election is a pageant of democracy and it’s my duty towards the nation,” Patni added. Appreciating Patni’s gesture, Surendranagar district collector and election officer Okay Rajesh stated, “In spite of being on go away due to a tragedy within the family, he got here to discharge his tasks to aiding the new ARO. We may entire the ballot smoothly because of dedicated officers like Patni.”
