Liquor banned for 5 days in Daman

SURAT: Bacchus making plans to visit watering hole in union territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (DNH) on Sunday won’t be capable of experience spirited drinks at the seashores and lodges.

The Election Commission has banned the sale of liquor in the union territory for 5 days due to the Lok Sabha Election.


Official assets stated that the sale and consumption of liquor in the union territories of Daman, Diu and DNH is banned for 5 days.

All the wine retail outlets, lodges and restaurant will have to strictly adhere to the EC order or else face song from the election commission.


Rajesh Sheth, a textile businessman stated, “We had been making plans to visit Daman for three days starting from Sunday. We had been meant to go back again to Surat on Monday night time in order to solid our votes on Tuesday. However, we learnt that the sale and consumption of liquor is banned due to election. Thus, we've got dropped our plan.”


Another resident, Shailesh Vaja stated, “I appreciate the decision of the election commission. I believe that consumption of liquor in public position is banned by Daman administration. However, people must be allowed to drink throughout the lodge and restaurant.”


Secretary of Daman Hotel and Restaurant Assocation, Harish Thangal stated, “All the lodges, wine retail outlets, eating places and lodge owners will have to strictly apply the order. We have circulated the message to our contributors to forestall the sale of liquor. Even the purchasers staying in the lodge wont’ be getting liquor.”
