MUMBAI: Known as Mumbai's authentic population who have been part of the seven islands which have shaped Mumbai these days are individuals of the Worli Koliwada. Barely a couple of days ahead of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled to be held within the city, those have decided towards casting their votes on April 29 this month.
One of the main reasons for this choice, they say, is the Mumbai Coastal Road reclamation works which they concern will quickly rob them in their livelihood.
Currently, about 400-500 families from Worli Koliwada are utterly dependent on fishing process. Over 150 fisherman's boats from the village undertaking into the sea to catch fish day-to-day.

Nitesh Patil of the Worli Koliwada Nakhwa Matsya Vyavsay Sahakari Society, which has been actively following up at the courtroom petition says, "Over the years even basic demands raised by us like adequate lighting to be provided in the jetty area at Worli, improvement of drainage lines within the Koliwada and the mosquito menace owing to the drainage lines not being cleaned on time have not been addressed. The current reclamation works for the Mumbai Coastal Road is a major concern among us. We approached every political party but no one came forward to help us. Finally, we had to take our battle to the court to ensure that the reclaimation works were stopped and we were not robbed of our livelihood."
