Allahabad: Samajwadi Party on Saturday declared Pandhari Yadav as its candidate from Phulpur and nominated Rajendra Singh Patel from Allahabad. While Pandhari is the former Allahabad district leader of the birthday celebration, Rajendra Singh is the uncle of BJP’s Phulpur MLA Praveen Patel.
The highlight is on 61-year-old Pandhari because Phulpur is a constituency associated with the first Prime Minister of unbiased India Jawahar Lal Nehru and had sent Keshav Prasad Maurya to Parliament in the 2014 polls. After Maurya resigned to develop into the deputy leader minister, SP candidate Nagendra Singh Patel received the seat in a bypoll that followed.
A resident of Bagambari in Allahapur, Pandhari had been lively in scholar politics and was once publishing secretary of the scholars’ union of CMP in 1985-86. He was once district president of Lohia Vahini in 1996 and district president of the birthday celebration in 2010. His USP? A clean image. “The fact that he has stayed away from controversies has come as a blessing as far as his candidature from the seat is concerned,” stated state spokesperson of Samajwadi Party Okay Okay Srivastava.
If SP has introduced Pandhari as its Phulpur candidate, the Congress has fielded Pankaj Niranjan from the seat that has a vital selection of citizens from the Patel community. Pankaj is the son-in-law of Krishna Patel. D Kesari Devi, then again, is in the fray from BJP.
