When Nandita Das went into labour on Sunday, clash-hit Hailakandi used to be in a state of lockdown. The whole district had been beneath curfew since Friday's communal clashes in Hailakandi, Assam. Her neighbour Maqbool Hussain Laskar, came to the family's lend a hand and drove the woman to the hospital in his auto rickshaw amidst curfew. The couple named their child 'Shanti'.
