Eoin Morgan blasts record 17 sixes against Afghanistan

MANCHESTER (England): England captain Eoin Morgan smashed his way into the file books on Tuesday, blasting 17 sixes - essentially the most in a one-day global cricket innings - on his strategy to 148 off just 71 balls against Afghanistan on the Cricket World Cup.

India's Rohit Sharma, West Indies' Chris Gayle and South Africa's AB de Villiers had shared the previous file of 16 sixes in a one-day global innings.

Morgan scored greater than 100 runs off sixes on my own, and only hit 4 fours in his innings. After knocking his 17th six over the boundary rope, he was once stuck out next ball within the deep.

The left-hander's century was once the fourth-fastest in World Cup historical past, scored in 57 balls, and he reached that milestone with a six as neatly. The file is held via Ireland's Kevin O'Brien, who reached triple figures in 50 balls against England in 2011.

His innings, which featured 118 runs in boundaries, was once all of the more impressive as Morgan had been in doubt for this fit with a back spasm suffered in England's eight-wicket win over the West Indies, during which he may no longer bat.
