Mamata Banerjee unveils Vidyasagar bust, statue

KOLKATA: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Tuesday installed a new bust of 19th century social reformer Iswhar Chandra Vidyasagar at the college the place an old one was once vandalised all the way through a roadshow of BJP president Amit Shah remaining month.
She also unveiled an eight.Five-ft pristine white fibre-glass statue of Vidyasagar in the courtyard of the college.

After unveiling the bust close to Hare college, which was once then transferred to Vidyasagar College, Banerjee said altogether 10 other people were killed in post-poll violence in the state and 8 of them belonged to her birthday party -- the Trinamool Congress.

The different two are BJP supporters, she said.

"Every death is unfortunate. I will ask the chief secretary to provide assistance from the disaster management fund to the families of all the 10 deceased," she said.

Post-poll violence has been reported from quite a lot of puts of West Bengal after the BJP secured 18 of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in the state, just 4 not up to that of the TMC.

All the cases will be investigated, the manager minister said.


Claiming that the BJP is "planning to change Bengal into Gujarat", she said, "I am ready to go to jail but will not allow it to happen."


The new bust was once unveiled via Banerjee at a programme held close to Hare School after which transported in an open jeep to Vidyasagar College, the place it was once installed at the similar position the place the vandalised old one was once placed.


Eminent poets, writers and senior ministers were also provide at the programme.


The shattering of the bust resulted in sour recrimination, with each Banerjee and Shah accusing each and every different's birthday party staff of vandalism.
