Ambedkar's statue pulled down in Bangarmau

KANPUR: Tension gripped Hayat Nagar area of Bangarmau in Unnao on Friday after a statue of Bhim Rao Ambedkar was once allegedly pulled down through some people. According to the police, the difficulty mongers had been those that had been in opposition to protecting 'Bhim Katha'--to have fun birth anniversary of BSP founder Kanshi Ram.
"As per the complainant, the lumpen elements did not spare even women, elderly and children, who were attending the discourse, and thrashed them badly. They threatened and abused supporters of Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. They warned the locals not to hold such an event in future or else face dire consequences," stated a senior police authentic.

Before the police could arrive on the spot, the miscreants managed to escape.


"When the followers of Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram resisted the protest by some local youths, the latter attacked them and resorted to violence. They pulled down the statue of Ambedkar and raised anti-dalit slogans. This caused tension, and at that time there was no police in the area", stated a local.


The police, after coming to grasp in regards to the incident, rushed to the spot and attempted to pacify the agitated mob but all in vain. Seeing the people seething in anger, more police force was once despatched which managed to nab some of the five accused.


"Four accused are still on the run, and they will be arrested soon. An FIR has been registered against five people in this case", stated DSP, Unnao, Swatantra Singh whilst talking to TOI.
