TIRUPUR: Residents of various settlements round Mangalam Road have antagonistic Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department’s motion to get well temple lands in the city.
On Friday, greater than 500 citizens staged a hunger strike in opposition to the department, which has intensified its motion to get well temple lands after a Madras prime court docket order, at Parappalayam.

The encroached lands belonged to 2 temples, Visweswaraswamy and Veeraraghava Perumal temple and Nallur’s Visweswaraswamy Visalatchi Amman Subramanyaswamy temple.”
The department has issued show-cause notices to 45 citizens at Sengunthapuram.
“Title deeds for these types of lands had been in the name of deities of the two temples. If so, the homes of the deities, being considered as minors always, no person can make the most of them in opposition to the pursuits of the deities,” said A Muthu Palaniappan, former assistant commissioner of the department, who worked in mixed Coimbatore district.
All those disputed lands had been illegally offered via the then temple trustees round 50 years ago. Many former earnings officers may also have conspired in additional phases in helping to promote the lands all through the periods of Updated Registry Scheme (UDR in 1980) and computerization.
