Another professional who has worked in the SR mechanical branch said many from Kerala vanish to the Middle East for jobs with out resigning from the railways. But it doesn’t have a significant impact on the passenger services, he opined.


“This is particularly rampant amongst docs and married ministerial personnel who really feel that their absence can later be regularised,” said Abraham Jacob, former chief operations manager (COM) of SR.


Jacob said that compromises on protection and overdue operating of trains (detention of trains at stations) were two of the direct impact of absenteeism. “It is without delay linked to unionism.
