Berhampur: With summer season on its means, the general public well being engineering organisation (PHEO) has devised a plan to get to the bottom of the issue of ingesting water supply.
"At least a dozen wells will be dug up this year, while more tankers will be installed in water scarcity areas," said Sitaram Panda, govt engineer, PHEO, Berhampur.
While work on 5 wells are over, seven more wells are expected to be able by way of the tip of this year, he added. The wells would provide round 0.five million litres in step with day. "These measures will be able to ease the drinking water problem in the town in peak summer period and before the commencement of Janibili water supply project," Panda said.
"We will submit a contingency plan to the government for the summer months after assessing the situation of the water supply," Panda added.
Water scarcity has been a recurrent drawback in Berhampur with town getting round 54.50 tens of millions of litres in step with day (mld) as towards the requirement of 60 mld.
Supply of water would turn into acute all through peak summer season with Rushikulya river becoming dry. On normal days Rushikulya supplies round 20 mld water, sources said. Out of the 40 wards below Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) house, simplest seven get piped water whilst the remainder are in part supplied with piped water, sources said.
