MANGALURU: Two elephant calves - eight-month-old and some other about 18-month-old, have been found dead beside the railway tracks deep throughout the Shiradi Ghat forest, 10 km from Yedakumeri railway station towards Sakleshpur in Karnataka, on Monday morning.
Forest officers suspect that the calves will have been hit by a train, most probably goods train, overdue on Sunday night time whilst they have been seeking to pass the tracks close to a bridge or whilst straying beside the monitor.
Hassan Deputy Conservator of Forests Shivaram Babu, underneath whose jurisdiction the incident took place, showed this incident pronouncing that officers had visited the spot and had despatched the carcasses for autopsy.
