Employee cooked up loot story to fund sister’s marriage

LUDHIANA: A day after a 26-year-old man claimed that armed goons robbed him of Rs 45,000 on Pakhowal Road, police claimed to have solved the case with the arrest of the complainant.
Jatinderpal Singh, an worker of a Dugri businessman, cooked up the loot story as he wanted cash for his sister’s marriage, mentioned police.

Singh, on Thursday, had advised the police that two men on a motorbike robbed him of Rs 45,000 at gunpoint close to Passi Nagar Chowk on Pakhowal Road round 2pm.

Singh’s employer, Robin Gulati, had requested him to get a cheque encashed. After taking flight Rs 45,000 from HDFC Bank on Pakhowal Road, Singh used to be driving again to his place of work when, he alleged, goons intercepted him and snatched the money at gunpoint.

Dugri police station SHO inspector Ashok Kumar mentioned, “During interrogation, Singh shared different routes he and the robbers took. And those did not fit up with the footage of CCTV cameras. The CCTV cameras, in reality, have captured neither of them. When faced, he broke down and confessed to have faked the robbery. He advised that he wanted the money for his sister’s marriage scheduled for June 28.”

The police have arrested Singh beneath sections 182 (false knowledge, with intent to cause public servant to use his lawful power to the harm of another person), 406(punishment for felony breach of consider), 420 (cheating) of the IPC.
