Nagpur: Though all tiger reserves and transit treatment centres in the state have no less than one wildlife veterinarian, best two were earmarked for annual chance allowance of Rs1.20 lakh.
On January 24, the state government approved chance allowance to vets posted at Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) Borivali in Mumbai and another hooked up to APCCF (wildlife), Nagpur (East).
All tiger reserves have separate vets for quick reaction to other scenarios. Vets who've been posted in Tadoba, Pench, Navegaon-Nagzira, Melghat and other places have cried foul over the verdict.
“We too face existence chance in relation to animal rescue engaged in conflicts. All have been part of Pandharkawda tigress T1 and its cubs rescue operation in phases. The factor is not only related to two vets best,” they said.
“If in any respect such an allowance is being given then priority must be Tadoba and its landscape where man-animal conflict is a routine. Not best wildlife vets NGO volunteers also face dangers,” said Bandu Dhotre of Eco-Pro, who himself become a victim of leopard attack throughout a rescue operation two years in the past.
State’s leader wildlife warden AK Misra says, “I agree in-principle that each one wildlife vets with the department must be coated under the risk allowance, but the two posts which were coated are on permanent deputation whilst other posts are on contract with a hard and fast pay, hence it was no longer imaginable.”
Misra said wildlife vets in SGNP is at extra chance due to man-leopard conflict getting into the residential localities. Same is the case with Pench. “The factor shall be resolved once an everlasting cadre of wildlife vets is created. The state board for wildlife (SBWL) has already approved the verdict,” said Misra.
On the opposite, a bit of wildlife vets said, “The vets who come on deputation spend most in their time on accomplishing post-mortems, treating injured animals and revel in for capturing animals is studying for them. The time when they get to grasp problems, they're posted back to their dad or mum division,” they added.
