Gurgaon: The authorities are but to put into effect the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), even supposing air air pollution stage has remained 'Very Poor' over the last 72 hours.
On Sunday, the air high quality index (AQI) used to be 337, which falls below 'Very Poor' class according to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Since Thursday, AQI has constantly been over 330. The easiest stage of PM2.five used to be 168.40 microgrammes according to cubic metre (g/m3) on Sunday, 153.88 g/m3 on Saturday, 157.54 g/m3 on Friday and 148.78 g/m3 on Thursday.
Residents blamed authorities for no longer taking measures sanctioned below GRAP. "We don't see any difference in the way environmental violations were tackled in the city. Construction dust continuous to blow in our sector, while cases of waste burning and dumping are increasing by the day. One can see clouds of dust almost everywhere in the city," mentioned Ranjeet Lather, a resident of Sector 58.
Sector 14 resident Ramesh Vani mentioned, "We have been reporting environmental violations almost every day. Construction norms are openly flouted here. Water is never sprinkled to reduce dust at construction sites near Maharana Pratap Chowk. Our area is in the heart of the city, yet we're forced to live in such a polluted environment."
Experts criticised authorities for no longer taking any long run measures. "Diesel gensets and diesel autos are major causes of air pollution in Gurgaon. At the same time, it's impossible for residents to manage without gensets and autos. Authorities have done nothing to improve power infrastructure, nor have they taken any step to take diesel autos off the roads. GRAP measures can be implemented only if authorities have sustainable long-term and short-term plans to tackle pollution," mentioned Niranjan Raje, former member of Environment Pollution Control Authority (EPCA).
Officials of Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) mentioned the current meteorological stipulations aren't letting particulate topic to disperse. "Wind speed is continuously falling, and there is an increase in humidity. It doesn't let particulate matter disperse quickly. This is making the situation worse, despite all preventive measures that are being taken," mentioned a senior reputable of HSPCB.
Talking about measures taken via the board, the reputable mentioned, "We are conducting regular inspection of construction sites. Also, we have sent directions to industries not to use furnace oil and petroleum coke."
