Congress moves first, cuts Narayan Rane's Konkan base

MUMBAI: In a pre-emptive move, state Congress president Ashok Chavan on Saturday dissolved all of the Sindhudurg district Congress committee led by way of Datta Samant as well as the block Congress committees controlled by way of senior Congress chief Narayan Rane. Congress expects that sooner or later, Rane will quit the celebration and sign up for the BJP.

Vikas Sawant, son of former minister Bhai Sawant, will be the new president of the District Congress Committee. Chavan showed to TOI that since now not a single member used to be enrolled in the district, it used to be now not conceivable to hold the organisational elections; in consequence, the celebration had no possibility but to sack the district president and dissolve all committees. "We have initiated the process for organisational elections. It used to be found that in the recent past, now not a single member used to be enrolled in all of the district. Under such circumstances, it used to be made up our minds to dissolve all the committees,'' Chavan said.

Every week in the past, Congress had deputed Rajya Sabha member Husain Dalwai and Congress general secretary Rajan Bhosale for an on-the-spot learn about of the political situation in the district in the wake of reports that the Rane family would possibly quit Congress and sign up for the BJP .The major responsibility on Dalwai and Bhosale used to be to evaluate the political situation and ensure that Congress activists stick with the celebration and do not sign up for the BJP .

In Congress circles, it's believed that Rane, in conjunction with his sons Nilesh and Nitesh, will soon sign up for the BJP , possibly after the Navratri pageant. In the recent past, CM Devendra Fadnavis and state BJP president Raosaheb Danve had visited Rane's place of dwelling. If a BJP cupboard member is to be believed, BJP has introduced Rane nomination to the Rajya Sabha, induction of Nitesh as a minister of state and nomination of Nilesh to the state legislative council, whilst Rane has submitted that he should be inducted into the state cupboard, Nilesh to Rajya Sabha or Lok Sabha and Nitesh to the state assembly .

"Since we now have set the target of 350-plus seats for Lok Sabha and 200 for assembly , we really feel Rane, who has considerable clout in Konkan region, will lend a hand us enhance our power," said the BJP cupboard member.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Nilesh misplaced to Sena's Vinayak Raut in Sindhudrug-Ratnagiri constituency whilst Rane himself misplaced from Kudal. Rane made an unsuccessful bid to contest a by-poll from Bandra, but used to be mauled by way of Shiv Sena nominee Trupti Sawant.
