KOLKATA: Shandesh Gurung, a Gorkha lad from Nepal, was once awarded the coveted 'Manekshaw Khukri' all the way through the passing out parade for 207 recruits at 58 Gorkha Training Centre (58 GTC) in Happy Valley, Shillong, on Friday.
The passing out parade is the end result of rigorous training and transformation of a recruit into a tender soldier of the Indian Army. The recruits took the oath of confirmation in the presence of Maj Gen Hemant Joneja, Colonel of the Regiment, eight Gorkha Rifles.
"I complement 58 GTC for the excellent training and immaculate demonstration of military drill. I also congratulate the proud parents for successful graduation of their sons into military service," Maj Gen Joneja informed the gathering.
A Sengja formative years from Nepal, Bikash Saru, also won the Dutta Trophy for standing overall second in benefit. The folks of the two winners were also awarded Gaurav Padaks in popularity in their roles and contribution to the nation.
