SINGAPORE: A 25-year-old Indian-origin guy used to be on Monday sentenced to 17 years in prison and 24 strokes of the cane in Singapore for raping a cleaner after she foiled his bid to rob her.
Kelvin Singh Jagjit used to be convicted in August on fees of rape and sexual assault, in line with a report by way of the Channel News Asia.
The court heard that round middle of the night on January 13 closing 12 months, Singh used to be cycling round Serangoon Gardens armed with a Swiss army knife "looking for victims to rob".
On spotting the 41-year-old, whose shift had simply ended, walking alongside Kensington Road, Singh cycled past her prior to throwing the bicycle to the ground. He than ran against her, brandished the knife and demanded cash.
The quick-thinking woman flung her purse - containing about 800 Singapore bucks in cash, amongst other items - over a fence into the compound of a private area alongside the alleyway.
Singh, still protecting the knife, forced the victim to remove her garments and raped her.
The woman then called her boyfriend, who then called the police. Singh used to be arrested three days later whilst cycling around the space.
According to a psychiatric report, Singh has "a history of conduct disorder, borderline intelligence...(and) prominent antisocial and narcissistic personality traits", the report stated.
Prosecutors pointed to Singh's previous convictions for the usage of felony drive, assault with a dangerous weapon, rioting and felony intimidation.
