COIMBATORE: Salem Municipal Corporation (SMC) officials, who have been on an inspection power, have been surprised to find mosquito larvae and snake in the water tank of a private medical institution in Asthampatti area on Sunday and imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on the medical institution.

When the civic body officials inspected the Shanmuga Hopsital in Asthampatti, they discovered stagnated water with mosquito larvae on its premises. When alerted, corporation commissioner R Sadheesh reached the spot and inspected all the medical institution premise.

"The hospital premises were very unhygienic, with them dumping waste inside its campus. We even spotted a snake in its water tank. We fined the hospital Rs 10 lakh and also issued a severe warning," the corporation commissioner mentioned.

The officials additionally inspected another private medical institution, Saraswathi Hospital, situated in the similar area and found mosquito larvae breeding in plastic buckets and containers full of water. The medical institution premises have been additionally dirty and the officials imposed on it a fine of Rs four lakh.


Besides this, two spinning mills in Ammapettai have been fined Rs 5 lakh each as in addition they housed mosquito breeding grounds on their premises.

The civic body has, in the meantime, referred six cases to the sub-divisional magistrate to impose Section 133 of Code of Criminal Procedure for causing nuisance to the general public.
