UGC to institutes: Refund fees and return certificates

NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) mentioned on Thursday it has won proceedings that universities and schools acquire in advance complete price from students who must forfeit it despite the fact that they don't join. The establishments had been asked to follow the norms on this regard.


In a letter to Vice Chancellors, UGC Secretary Jaspal S Sandhu mentioned there have been proceedings that establishments additionally retain the original certificate of applicants. UGC, in its letter, referred to a public understand issued by it in 2007 during which it had opined that preserving original certificate and forcing retention of admitted students limited the potential of applicants to join other establishments.


It had asked tutorial establishments to deal with a waiting listing and in case a scholar chooses no longer to join, admit the next in line whilst deducting a processing price of no more than Rs 1,000 and refund the rest amount. The UGC had additionally asked establishments not to retain original certificate of applicants.
