NOIDA: Uttar Pradesh govt on Wednesday has granted an in-principle acclaim for acquiring a loan of Rs 3000 crores from Central govt agency— Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited (HUDCO)—for building an international airport at Jewar.

The nod came at a gathering held in Lucknow within the presence of state Industrial Development Commissioner (IDC) Anup Chandra Pandey and UP Principal Secretary Industries Alok Sinha.

According to officials of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), the decision might be inked within the next state cupboard meeting. "Since the airport is to be developed in three phases across 3000 hectares of land. In the first phase of the project about 1250 hectares of land will be required. To acquire this land, YEIDA will require about Rs 3,000 crores," Shailendra Bhatia, Officer on Special Duty (OSD), YEIDA instructed TOI from Lucknow.


"YEIDA has been designated as the coordinating and negotiating agency for obtaining the loan on behalf of the state government from HUDCO," he said. In September this yr, HUDCO had in-principle agreed to offer all the loan of Rs 3000 crores at an interest rate of Rs 10.five% to UP.


Bhatia further said that since land acquisition process must be kick started with instant effect, the IDC on Wednesday also directed the state civil aviation division to offer an intervening time supplementary funds to the federal government for clearing an quantity of Rs 1000 crore. "This amount will be used to start the land acquisition for the airport project," the OSD said. "We expect both decisions to happen without any delay so as to expedite the project," he added. The intention is to ensure accuracy in earmarking the land for the sanctioned airport project.
