Civic polls: In a first, cops use drones in Allahabad

ALLAHABAD: For the primary time, two drones fitted with cameras had been used during the Allahabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) polls on Sunday to control legislation and order situation as well as strict tracking of the election procedure.

A group of policemen in conjunction with two technical professionals monitored the election procedure at a number of hypersensitive plus and hypersensitive polling booths via drones together with Mazidia Islamia Inter school, Lekhpal training Guas Nagar, Jwaladevi Inter school, Nagar Mahapalika School (Roshanbagh), Atala Primary Pathsala (Attarsuiya), Hamidia Girls inter school, Gauri Pathsala Inter school, DAV inter school and different booths.


SP, traffic, Kuldeep Singh instructed TOI, "Dones were used during the civic polls for the first time that helped in maintaining election process successfully". He said that a technical group assisted police officers to handle drones and teams have covered various hypersensitive plus and hypersensitive polling booths.


"Two drones fitted with cameras were used for proper monitoring of election process," he said.


The election was once carried out at 880 polling booths together with 101 of them being placed below hypersensitive plus category. "With the help of drone facility, cops assigned security duties in and around hypersensitive plus and hypersensitive booths had managed it easily," said the official.


Apart from drones, group of workers of Provincial Armed Constabulary, Central Reserve Police Force and Rapid motion pressure had been deployed at hypersensitive plus and hypersensitive polling booths on Sunday. Besides, 268 sub-inspectors, 500 constables and 2800 homeguards from neighbouring districts had been deployed for the election procedure, official said.
