NEW DELHI: Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani on Monday announced that he's going to contest the Gujarat elections as an independent candidate.
"Friends, I m contesting from Vadgam-11 seat of Banaskantha district of Gujarat as an independent candidate. We shall fight, we shall win," he tweeted.
Mevani had on November 15 announced that he may not share the degree with any political birthday party.
"We will not share the stage with any political party, even if it is the Congress," PTI had quoted him as saying.
He had, then again, reiterated that his sole intention was once to defeat the BJP. In truth, he predicted that the state's ruling BJP will not be able to muster greater than 80 seats.
Mevani is about to hold a tradition in Ahmedabad on December 6, the loss of life anniversary of Dalit icon Dr BR Ambedkar. Dalit and patidar leaders are expected to take part.
It had earlier been reported that the Congress was once having a look to come to an association with Mevani, Patidar leader Hardik Patel, and Alpesh Thakor.
Gujarat is going to vote in two stages, on December nine and 14, respectively. Counting of votes will take place on December 18.
