RAJGIR: Chief minister Nitish Kumar pitched for a world heritage standing to 22km-long Cyclopean Wall whilst inaugurating the three-day Rajgir Mahotsav at Rajgir International Convention Centre (RICC) on Monday night.
"The Cyclopean Wall at Rajgir is among the oldest specimens of this type of masonry across the world. Our government's efforts got world heritage site status to the ancient Nalanda University. We will make efforts to get the same status to the Cyclopean Wall," he said.
The inaugural match started with all-religion prayers, adopted by performances by mandolin maestro Pandit Sugato Bhaduri and Kathak by Sushmita Banerjee. The major appeal of the inaugural function used to be Bollywood singer Hariharan.
The CM also opened Krishi and Gram Shree Mela and Food Plaza at the hockey grounds.
Films 'Toilet: Ek Prem Katha' and 'Dangal' are scheduled to be screened for children at RICC on Tuesday whilst wrestling, heritage stroll, quite a lot of instructional, carrying and recreational events are scheduled for college kids and folks during the following two days.
Underlining his robust association with Rajgir, Nitish said the place used to be witness to non secular and social transformations underneath Lord Buddha and Lord Mahavir.
The CM also took a jibe at RJD leader Lalu Prasad's recent remark that Nitish would have his 'samadhi' (mausoleum) at Rajgir. "Rajgir is a historically rich place and I did my bit by developing the area educationally and otherwise...I see no harm in having my mausoleum at Rajgir after my death as someone, who knows nothing but making money at any cost, has jokingly suggested," Nitish said.
The CM also thanked Nalanda district management and tourism division for making choice preparations for the festival inside of 48 hours of fixing the venue following conditional approval granted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which had 22 prerequisites for organizing the development at Quila Maidan, which is one of the protected websites of ASI.
State ministers Shailesh Kumar, Shrawan Kumar, Nalanda MP Kaushlendra Kumar also spoke at the occasion.
Started as 'Rajgir Nritya Mahotsav' by then Union tourism minister H Ok L Bhagat after which Bihar CM Bindeshwari Dubey at Sone Bhandar space in 1986, the development used to be brought to sprawling Quila Maidan in 2011 by then Nalanda DM Sanjay Kumar Agarwal reportedly at the recommendation of CM Nitish.
