Coimbatore: Five males, together with three truck drivers, a cleaner and a truck owner, have been arrested on Friday night for illegally ferrying cattle to Kerala.
Madukkarai police arrested Eshwaran R, the owner of a truck that was once wearing 23 cows to Palakkad from Salem on Friday night. The truck was once passing thru S R Petrol Bunk close to Bodipalayam, about 5km from the Madukkarai police station at the L&T Bypass Road. A police team carrying out car take a look at had apprehended the car.
The motive force of the truck, Selvaraj S and cleaner Sagul Ahmed have been arrested later. Selvaraj, a local of Anaimalai, has been riding the truck for the final 18years whilst Sagul, from Kanthaperumbu, has been the cleaner for 10 years.
The cattle have been transported from Omalur Sandhai in Salem to Kulalmannam in Palakkad, police sources mentioned.
Meanwhile, Karumathampatty police arrested drivers of two trucks from Andhra Pradesh that have been wearing 57 buffaloes to Palakkad. The trucks have been stopped at the Kaniyur Toll Gate where police have been wearing out car take a look at.
Ramesh P, a local of Vijayawada and Mohammed Jiyavul Rahman, a local of Krishna in Andhra Pradesh, have been arrested. Police are searching for the truck's owner, Ramesh Babu Rao, a resident of Vijayawada.
The buffaloes have been stored in the Vellingiri Goshala. Police has booked the three under Sections 11(1)(a), 11(1)(b), 11(1)(e), 11(1)(h) of the Prevention of Animal Cruelty Act 1969 and 96 and 98 (1) and delivery of animal rules and MV Act.
