Nilgiris environmentalist to attend UN mountain partnership meeting

UDHAGAMANDALAM: An environmental activist from the Nilgiris has been invited to wait the UN Mountain Partnership Global Meeting at the headquarters of Food and Agriculture Organisation in Rome.


Dharmalingam Venugopal, director of Nilgiri Documentation Centre (NDC), will attend the meeting to be held in Italy from December 11-14. The event this 12 months coincides with the International Mountain Day and the 15th anniversary of the mountain partnership.


The meeting, he said, would talk about the wish to position mountain ecosystem and people at the centre of global negotiations, policies and investments. "It will also see the launch of a framework for action to support and strengthen the resilience of mountain people and environment," Venugopal said.


The director of NDC said the mountain partnership meeting would purpose to be sure that sustainable mountain development used to be integrated into the 2030 sustainable development goals and implementation of Paris Agreement on local weather alternate.


The mountain partnership is an official United Nations partnership and global voluntary alliance devoted to improve the lives of mountain peoples and give protection to mountain environments world wide.
