SC refuses to quash Rakesh Asthana's appointment as CBI special director

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to quash the appointment of Rakesh Asthana as CBI particular director.

The apex courtroom mentioned there was once no violation of any rules and rules, and upheld the Centre's choice.


The courtroom dismissed the plea by way of NGO Common Cause that had challenged the elevation of the Gujarat-cadre IPS officer, on the grounds that it was once "illegal" and "arbitrary."


Appearing for the petitioner, suggest Prashant Bhushan, mentioned Asthana's appointment was once illegal as his identify had surfaced in a diary recovered all the way through a raid carried out by way of the Income Tax division.


Bhushan mentioned the diary showed that Asthana gained illegal gratification from an organization. The CBI recently registered an FIR for money laundering in opposition to the company and a few public servants.
