Typhoon kills 27, leaves 22 missing along Vietnam coast

HANOI, VIETNAM: A formidable storm battering Vietnam has killed no less than 27 other people and left 22 others missing amid in depth damage along the south-central coast, officials mentioned on Sunday.


The missing include 17 crew members of cargo ships that have been sunk off the coast of the central province of Binh Dinh, the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority mentioned in a commentary. Seventy-four other crew members have been rescued previous.


More than 600 houses were destroyed and nearly 40,000 others damaged as Typhoon Damrey led to fashionable blackouts across the region, the crisis agency mentioned.


The storm, the second one to hit Vietnam in a month, also led to in depth damage to the region's rice fields and other plants while 228 fishing boats have been sunk or damaged, the agency mentioned. It left some 1,500 passengers stranded at railway stations.


Heavy rains are expected to last till Tuesday together with within the central hotel town of Danang, just days prior to the start an financial summit attended through Presidents Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin of Russia and Xi Jinping of China, amongst others.
