After 100 days in jail, Akhil Gogoi walks free

GUWAHATI: After spending a bit of over 100 days in prison, Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) adviser Akhil Gogoi finally walked loose on Wednesday.

Detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in September after which slapped with further charges, Akhil used to be granted bail by a decrease courtroom in Goalpara on Tuesday after the Gauhati high courtroom earlier absolved him of NSA charges.


Immediately after popping out of jail in the morning, Akhil blasted the ruling BJP-led govt and termed it 'fascist'. He added that that his movement against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will proceed. "Though Sonowal promised to protect the interest of the state and its people, he has become a puppet of Delhi and the RSS. The government does not tolerate criticism and democratic protests. But this won't deter my spirit," he said, adding that police might slap extra cases on him soon so that he may also be put behind bars once more.


Jubilant supporters and contributors of KMSS welcomed their chief right here and vowed to proceed their protest against any anti-public coverage of the state govt. "From the way the government is trying to suppress Akhil and our movement, it's clear that it's scared of us," said a KMSS supporter.
