As this was once the second one incident of the killing of a peacock within the woodland area of NCR previously three weeks — the primary being on December nine when a peacock died upon getting entangled in a trap within the Raisina area of the Aravalis — natural world activists and volunteers of the animal welfare board of India (AWBI) have decided to increase patrolling within the woodland area to forestall poaching.

Activists claimed that after the December nine incident, they noticed several animal traps within the woodland areas of NCR.

Shivani Sharma, honorary animal welfare officer, AWBI, claimed at least seven to 8 volunteers were patrolling inside the woodland, overlaying a radius of Three-Four kilometres. "Everyday, we spot broken feathers, peacock bones and carcasses in the forest. We also find empty bottles of alcohol. It is apparent that peacocks are being killed for their meat. Shockingly, many traps have been found in the area. The poachers are not only targeting peacocks, but also jackals, nilgai and other wild animals," Sharma told TOI.

Locals published cases of peacocks getting poached for their meat pass up all over winters. "While peacock poaching takes place throughout the year for its feathers, the incidents increase during winters for the meat. Lack of patrolling by forest department makes it easier for the poachers to hunt the peacocks," a Bairol villager said.

The activists additionally alleged their lawsuits have fallen on deaf ears. Environmental activist Vaishali Chandra Rana, who had written to the chief minister in regards to the animal traps discovered within the Aravalis, said, "After the December 9 incident, we wrote to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar requesting him to take steps to protect the wildlife. Today's (Wednesday) killing confirmed that the authorities didn't pay any heed to our complaint."

Meanwhile, a natural world official said they have got increased vigilance within the area following the incident.

"We are investigating the case and have sent the carcass for post mortem. Anybody found causing any harm to wildlife will not be spared," he said.
