Coimbatore: City police on Monday night time seized 20kg of ganja and arrested two people, together with a lady, from the Coimbatore Central Bus Stand.
A unique crew led through sub-inspector Ganasekaran was once at the rounds at the bus stand around 10pm once they spotted the duo, carrying luggage. The police crew found 10 bundles of ganja (each weighing 2kg) worth Rs four lakh within the travel bag carried through the lady.
The arrested have been known as K Muthulakshmi of Usilampatti in Madurai and P Sakthivel of Uthirapatti village in Sivaganga. They told police that they have been carrying the contraband for a woman ganja peddler in Thadagam. Though a police crew rushed to Thadagam, the peddler managed to escape, police sources said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Muthulakshmi was once facing many circumstances for ownership of ganja for sales. She was once additionally facing a few circumstances investigated through the the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau (NIB)-CID.
Sakthivel told police that this was once his first attempt to bring ganja to Coimbatore from Chennai. "They had bought 20kg of ganja from a ganja peddler in Andhra Pradesh and transported it to Salem from Chennai in a bus. Later, they travelled to Coimbatore by bus and were waiting for another ganja peddler, Eswari, of Thadagam," said a police officer. The duo was once passed over to Kattoor police, who registered a case and remanded them.
