KENDRAPADA: Odia classes of the Kendrapada Autonomous College are always widespread. Almost none of the scholars bunk classes and but fewer find their attention waivering right through lectures. The explanation why is 34-yearold Sasmita Adhikari. With her books, her notes and her packed time table, Adhikari is the archetypal faculty teacher. With one distinction.
The instructional used to be born 100 consistent with cent blind. The local of Pohalabatipada village in Kendrapada found herself one of the widespread amongst scholars quickly after she used to be appointed teacher on the faculty, three months in the past.
"At first many students had their doubts, but her sincerity won us over," stated Mitali Mishra, a student of the varsity. Sincerity is something that Adhikari has needed to show a lot of, ever since her days on the Bhima Bhoi School for the Blind in Bhubaneswar, from where he handed the HSC. "I got my BA with honours in Odia from the Tulasi Women's College in Kendrapada and went on to get a post-graduation degree from Ravenshaw College in 2006. My blindness kept me from getting a job," stated Adhikari. It used to be handiest six years in the past that she were given a teacher's job at a government-run number one faculty in her village.
Then came the varsity job. "At last I had managed to fulfill my long-cherished dream," the lecturer stated. Adhikari dreams of opening a college and coaching centre for disabled folk in her village. It is a dream shared through the three people who are closest to her — her husband Susant Panda and their two daughters.
"I am looking at the world through Susant's eyes. I have gotten used to the view," stated Adhikari. Her circle of relatives are extremely joyful on the journey but for her uncle Natabar Adhikari, who heard skeptics discuss of the trials of raising a blind girl, Adhikari's existence is little short of a triumph.
"Many family members advised us to leave her to her fate because a woman with blindness is difficult to bring up. With sheer determination, she grew up to be a teacher that others will now look up to," stated Adhikari. College major Dr Sanjulata Das is all reward for her latest recruit. Das's sentiments are echoed through Adhikari's colleague Tapan Pati. "She is a living example that nothing is impossible," Pati stated
