Coimbatore: The town company spent just about Rs 10 lakh on renovation of Jurassic Park enclosure on the VOC Park in 2012 best to close it down later, RTI replies have revealed.
The enclosure continues to be closed for public. It was a big appeal for youngsters, because it has buildings of quite a lot of species of dinosaurs.
Daniel Jesudas, RTI activist and a member of DMK, mentioned contractor R Mayilvanan used to be paid Rs 9.98 lakh for the renovation of the Jurassic Park. He has supposedly arrange sound methods and renovated the inner part of the caves, but even so making some electric preparations. "If the corporation spends on a project, it should be used for revenue generation. But instead, they have spent on renovation only to shut down the park," he mentioned.
Earlier, a security guard used to be also solely recruited for the park. When the engineer incharge for the maintenance of the park used to be contacted, he mentioned the park used to be close because of security causes because the enclosure used to be an isolated one.
"We are not aware what people do inside. Most times, couples enter the enclosure. Since it is a public park with several children visiting it, we shut it down," mentioned the engineer. When asked concerning the renovation work, he refused to comment.
In 2014, the former town mayor, P Rajkumar, had proposed the renovation of the park at the cost of Rs 1crore. The civic body had not too long ago spent an equal amount on the renovation of VOC park zoo as well.
"But both the facilities do not seem to have been developed. There are no changes at all though the officials claim to have renovated them," mentioned a customer. The senior engineers were unavailable for feedback.
The company, Daniel mentioned, must be sure that price range were applied carefully. "It is the exchequer's money that they are spending," he mentioned.
