New team at helm of Asam Sahitya Sabha

GUWAHATI: Padum Rajkhowa was elected as the new basic secretary of Asam Sahitya Sabha, defeating his nearest rival Jadab Sarma by means of an especially narrow margin of 10 votes on Thursday.
"I am grateful to the people of Assam for placing their faith in me. Working for the indigenous tribes and communities will be my first priority. We will march ahead with grace and guidance of the stalwarts who led Asam Sahitya Sabha over the years," stated Rajkhowa.


Counting of votes for the election of top office-bearers of the apex literary frame of the state was underway at Barpeta Road in decrease Assam on the time of submitting this file. The election process had come to an end on November 30.


Total 900 branches and 26 district units of the Sabha took section in the election, this is noticed as a very powerful for easy habits of the complaints of the apex literary frame which celebrated it's centenary in 2017-18 commemorating its 100 glorious years.


Though Sabha didn't publish the panels of contenders this election — including the key posts of president, vicepresident and basic secretary — names of famous writers Yeshe Dorjee Thongshi, Karabi Deka Hazarika and outgoing basic secretary Paramananda Rajbongshi were doing the rounds as the main contenders for the coveted president's submit.


The names of Nomal Gogoi, Swadhinata Mahanta and Hemanta Kumar Barua emerged as top contenders for the submit of vice-president. The newly elected committee will steer the Sabha for the next two years.
