GUWAHATI: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded prompt measures from the BJP-led state executive in resettling the indigenous individuals who were evicted from the Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary over the last few days.
At a press convention held within the town within the presence of ABVP nationwide secretary Narendra Sapam, the group recommended the state executive to take stringent motion in opposition to leaders 'making an attempt' to spark communal rigidity forward of the draft publication of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
"Indigenous people of the state must be settled in alternate locations at the government's initiative. We want to see Assam free from illegal immigrants. As the NRC is being updated in the state, ABVP appeals to all sections of people to be patient and wait until the draft publication of the NRC. The manner in which the houses of people belonging to indigenous communities have been razed in Guwahati is condemnable," mentioned Simanta Kumar Das, central operating committee member of ABVP.
He added that though ABVP needs 1951 as the cutoff 12 months for choice of citizenship, it helps the continuing NRC updating process within the state the place 1971 has been earmarked as the cutoff 12 months for detection of illegal immigrants. "For us, a Hindu seeking asylum in India should always be treated as refugee and not illegal immigrant. But for the greater interest of Assam, ABVP appeals to all to cooperate with the ongoing NRC updating process," mentioned Das.

"We should keep faith in the Centre as Union home minister Rajnath Singh has promised that territorial integrity of Assam will not be affected by the Framework Agreement. But at the same time, the state government has failed to resist incursion bids from Nagaland," mentioned Das.
