Hubballi: A stray canine threat continues to pose a threat to the lives of folks within the twin towns. HDMC health officer Dr Prabhu Biradar, said, "We have been taking up the drive to put an end to the stray dogs menace since many days, and are continuing our efforts through the ABC programme. Due to some technical problems, the tender process was delayed, because of which the ABC program was hampered. Since October, the programme was started again."

"While going to a market in Old Hubballi Durgad bail, a pack of dogs started barking at us, and suddenly bit me on the hand. Nowadays, incidents of dog bites are common. The civic authorities should take stern action, otherwise, it will be very difficult to live," she added.


Dr Ravi Saligoudar of the HDMC sanitary department, said ABC programmes had been initiated since October in Hubballi-Dharwad. "It required more than one-and-a-half months to get control over the menace of stray dogs. Since March, the HDMC control room received more than 700 complaints, which are being attended to by the agency, to which the ABC programme is outsourced to. Once all the complaints are attended to, then the stray dog menace can be controlled," he added.
