BJD to stage protest in 10 districts demanding hike in paddy MSP

BHUBANESWAR: Dubbing the NDA government on the Centre as anti-farmer, the BJD on Thursday introduced a 10-day protest plan in 12 western and southern districts from January 8.
Addressing a news conference right here on the birthday celebration headquarters, BJD basic secretary Sanjay Das Burma lashed out on the Centre as Union minister of state for agriculture Gajendra Singh Sekhawat had informed the parliament on December 29 that there is no proposal now to revise the minimal fortify value (MSP) on paddy.

"The reply has exposed the anti-farmer attitude of the Centre. We condemn the statement of the Union ministers in the parliament. BJD would stage protest against it in 10 highest rice-producing districts," Das Burma stated.

The ruling birthday celebration would stage protest in all blocks of Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Nuapada, Rayagada, Sambalpur and Sonepur in more than a few stages, Das Burma informed.

The Centre has fixed the MSP for paddy (not unusual variety) at Rs 1550 in keeping with quintal for 2017-18. The Union minister had argued that a farmer features benefit of Rs 433 with the MSP at Rs 1550 as the price of manufacturing, in step with the Centre is, Rs 1117 in keeping with quintal.
