H-1B visa: As 5 lakh techies’ fate hangs in balance, Mahindra says this

NEW DELHI: Over five lakh "skilled" Indian workers' destiny in the USA might be striking in balance amid the recent adjustments proposed underneath the H-1B visa regulations through the Trump administration. If the new proposal of now not extending H-1B visa of those looking forward to everlasting residency (Green Card) is carried out, Indian tech workers staying in the USA must return home.
Reacting to this, Anand Mahindra, Chairman Mahindra Group, took Twitter to express his "welcome" message for "skilled" workers who could have to return back if the exchange within the H-1B regulations is implemented. He wrote: "If that happens, then I say 'Swagatam, Welcome Home.' You're coming back in time to help India Rise..."

Noted industrialist, Mahindra, is almost certainly the one of the vital active Indian businessman on the micro-blogging web site Twitter who never shies away from expressing his opinion.

Under present legislation, overseas guest workers are allowed one three-year extension of the H-1B visa of three-year validity. If at the finish of those six years the guest worker has a pending Green Card (Permanent Residency) utility, then there may be an almost indefinite extension of the H-1B visa till such time the applicant's Green Card processing is finished.

But, as part of US President Donald Trump's "Buy American, Hire American" initiative, the Department of Homeland Security is said to be taking into account new rules that might save you H-1B visa extensions.

Because there may be this sort of huge backlog of Green Card candidates, in particular for nations akin to India and China, masses of hundreds of workers from those nations spend 10-12 years in what is mirthlessly known as H-1B hell or limbo. The small 'comfort' they lately have is they may be able to remain in the USA while the Green Card is being processed.

The Trump administration is thinking about finishing that concession. If an H-1B visa holder has implemented for a Green Card at the finish of his six-years then she or he must go out the United States till the processing is whole.
