City girl makes TN proud by winning best cadet award

14-year-old Madhunisha JY from Coimbatore has made the state proud by winning the NCC All India best cadet award within the Junior Wing Air category. She gained the award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the republic day. CT stuck up with Madhunisha for a temporary chat.
"I came to know that I was getting the award a day before republic day. It was so honourable to receive the award from the Prime Minister himself. It was an unbelievable moment for me. I dedicate this to my trainers and care taker. It wouldn't have been possible without their training, they pushed me to work hard and I am reaping the benefits now. We were training for this for almost a year, all the early morning training and hard work has paid off," stocks Madhunisha elegance IX pupil of Shree Sarasswathi Vidhyaah Mandheer school, Mettupalayam.

"There are ten camps before the Republic Day camp (RDC) and the cadets keep getting filtered at the end of each camp. Except for the Republic Day Camp, all the camps were held in Tamil Nadu. There are many events held in the camp like written exams, firing, drills, personal interview, group discussion among others. There were 17 other cadets competing with me in my category across India and I won the award," she adds.

It has simply been two years since Madhu took up NCC at her school. "I got into NCC in 2016, this was my second R-Day camp. I was inspired by our seniors who were in NCC. They had attended the R-Day camps and made our school proud. That motivated me to get into NCC. I think we get a competitive spirit after getting into NCC. My aim is to become a doctor in armed forces. I want to go to Armed Forces Medical College. NCC has inspired me to aim for this."

S Sridhar, Associate NCC officer and teacher of Madhunisha says, "She worked for it day and night and we are so proud of her. It is not an easy task to win the best cadet award and to have done that from South India is really great. She had to compete really hard, in the first camp there were over 1000 cadets and from that she was selected. She was the only cadet from Tamil Nadu in her category. Then she competed with cadets from all over the country in the RDC and has won the prestigious award."

R Anuprabha, care taker of Madhunisha can't stop gushing about her, "It is a great achievement and she has brought laurels to the district and our institution. She is the first girl to have received this award from our institution and I am sure it will motivate other cadets in our school. She struggled a lot in all the ten camps and to win the award you need to be multi-talented, we are so proud of her."
