The third wheel problem!
Story: Sonu and Titu are youth besties. Sonu, the cynical millennial comes to Titu’s rescue every time he faces heartbreak and convinces him to stick unmarried, too. But Titu, a hopeless romantic, falls for the quintessential just right lady, Sweety. Is there more to her than meets the eye?
Review: ‘Pyaar Dosti hai’ — Shah Rukh Khan may have stated that long ago in 1998 but Luv Ranjan proves it with a twist in 2018. Unpredictable during, the movie’s real love tale is the friendship (platonic) between its two male characters (Kartik Aaryan as Sonu and Sunny Singh as Titu), who're inseparable. Sweety’s (Nushrat Bharucha) arrival, messes their equation, leading Sonu to wonder if the woman is just right sufficient for his brother from another mom. Who finally ends up as the third wheel on this unique and somewhat bizarre love triangle, bureaucracy the story.
If you might be familiar with Luv Ranjan’s emblem of younger romcoms, you must know that they frequently constitute younger lovelorn men, who to find themselves dancing to the tunes of manipulative girlfriends. Sonu Ke Titu ki Sweety (SKTKS) too revolves around a hapless sufferer of calculative ‘affairs’ and when you liked the Pyaar Ka Punchnama films, you might be sure to experience this one.
Despite its misogynistic nature, Ranjan’s lighthearted method to counter gender stereotypes in trendy relationships makes his take fascinating. A girl generally is a villain too! We wonder why Sweety must announce ‘Main chaalu hoon,’ to Sonu despite the fact that? Nonetheless, more than a few different eventualities appear relatable, which helps.
The casting works smartly as all performances are in sync with the movie’s cheeky demeanour. ‘Monologue man’ Kartik makes essentially the most of his meatier part and steals the show. Alok Nath in a now not so sanskari role is delightful. Sunny, Nushrat and Ishita Raj upload to the entertainment quotient.
However, what doesn’t work for the film is its period. Stretched for almost 2 hours, 20 minutes, the Sonu vs Sweety struggle, a number of songs and dialogues (tu shaadi sirf intercourse ke liye kar raha hai kya) stay entering into circles to the purpose of being boring. Also, Sonu’s outright hatred for Sweety lacks a legitimate reason, which makes his motive to damage Titu’s marriage appear more like a romantic obsession than possessiveness or protecting behaviour as meant.
Despite the chances, this bromance vs romance comedy works as an exhilarating guessing sport to expect who’ll finally end up as the third wheel — very best friend or girlfriend? This way warfare.
