Ballari: A 17-year-old boy sustained spinal injuries after a 6-decade-old chariot toppled after its picket axel broke at Garaga-Nagalapura village, 38km from Hosapete, on Tuesday night time.

The chariot of Anjanaya Swamy automobile competition met with the accident on its return journey. Virupaksha Badigar, the injured boy who is a resident of the village, used to be admitted to the 100-bed health facility in Hosapete. Doctors mentioned Badigar did not sustain main injuries.

The major priest and 3 village elders have been throughout the chariot when the incident took place at 6.50pm.

Mallappa, a 53-year-old devotee, mentioned that it used to be the primary such incident in the village. “The breaking of the axel is bad omen,” he instructed TOI.

PWD officials inspected the chariot sooner than the rituals resumed.
