Assam electricity tariff to fall by 14 paise/unit from April

GUWAHATI: Power tariff in Assam will fall via about two consistent with cent from next month with the regulatory body pronouncing a cut in energy charges.
"The energy charges have been reduced by 20-30 paise per unit. The Commission has marginally increased the fixed/demand charges for most categories. This has resulted in an overall decrease of 2 per cent (14 paise/unit) as compared to the existing tariff," Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) mentioned in a remark.

AERC mentioned the cut in energy charges for Jeevan Dhara phase will be 10 paise, whilst it will be cut 50 paise for public lighting for each unit ate up.

However, mounted charges were not raised for 2-3 classes because the charges were already upper than that of other segments.

AERC mentioned that after ultimate adjustment for 2016-17 and considering the standalone income requirement for 2018-19, the cumulative income surplus worked out to Rs 109.56 crore, the good thing about which has been passed on to the patron via revising the tariff with effect from April 1, 2018.

Explaining the reason to hike the mounted charges, the regulator mentioned: "On analysis, it was noticed that around 6 consistent with cent of the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) of Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) contains mounted costs. However, most effective 12 consistent with cent of the ARR is recovered via mounted/demand Charges.

"With the revision in mounted/demand charges, APDCL will be capable to recover most effective around 14 consistent with cent of the ARR during the mounted/demand charges."

For domestic purposes under five kW category, energy charges have been slashed to Rs five.45 consistent with unit from Rs five.65 for 120 gadgets, whilst it will be Rs 6.70 as against Rs 6.90 previous for 121 to 240 gadgets each month.

For the balance above 240 gadgets, it is decreased to Rs 7.70 from Rs 7.90, AERC mentioned.

For the homes having five kW to 25 kW load, the rate has lowered to Rs 7.30 from Rs 7.50 for each unit ate up.

However, mounted charges for all of the above four classes have been hiked to Rs 40 consistent with kW from Rs 30 now, AERC mentioned.


Likewise, the energy charges for industrial phase have also been decreased, whilst the mounted charges were higher.


The regulatory body informed that the average value of provide (ACOS) for 2018-19 works out to Rs 7.35 consistent with kWh as against APDCL's proposal of Rs 7.82 consistent with kWh and existing effective ACOS of Rs 7.49 consistent with kWh.


"The Commission has authorized the cumulative income requirement of Rs five,721 crore for APDCL for 2018-19 as against Rs 6,321 crore proposed via APDCL," AERC mentioned.


Trying to rationalise energy utilization hours, AERC announced that evening off-peak rebate has been higher from Rs 0.50 consistent with kWh to Rs 1.50 consistent with kWh in an effort to incentivise HT business shopper classes to shift their intake extra to night off-peak hours. TR JM
