No plan to appoint ombudsman to look into complaints against judges: Govt

NEW DELHI: The govt on Wednesday mentioned it has no plans to nominate an ombudsman to look into proceedings towards judges of the Supreme Court and the prime courts, pronouncing such problems are handled by way of an 'in-house' mechanism followed by way of the judiciary.
Minister of State for Law P P Chaudhary informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that "there is no proposal for appointment of ombudsman".

He mentioned proceedings received towards judges of the apex courtroom and the 24 prime courts are at present addressed during the 'in-house' mechanism of the Supreme Court.

Under the mechanism, the executive justice of India can receive proceedings towards judges of the apex courtroom and chief justice of the prime courts. The chief justices of the prime courts can receive proceedings towards judges of their respective courts.

Responding to another question, Chaudhary mentioned the federal government has "no information" to show that "the judicial system is working under any pressure".

He mentioned the judiciary is unbiased and is fully empowered and capable of handling all its issues.

Chaudhary used to be asked in regards to the recent controversy where top four judges of the Supreme Court had just about rebelled towards CJI Dipak Misra.
